Flight controls

How the Quest controllers map to the aircraft in Flight mode. These are the defaults from the joystick configuration and can be remapped.

RC override Stick inputs only reach the aircraft when RC override is enabled. It is off by default each session. Enable it from the menu or with the Right X2 button, and confirm the aircraft is reacting before you depend on it.

Sticks

The right stick gives direct control surface input; the left stick's vertical axis is a rate axis (it integrates over time rather than mapping position directly), which suits throttle-style control.

ControlRC channelBehavior
Right stick XChannel 1 (roll)Direct, inverted, 85% expo, 7% deadzone.
Right stick YChannel 2 (pitch)Direct, inverted, 85% expo, 7% deadzone.
Left stick XChannel 4 (yaw)Direct, inverted, 85% expo.
Left stick YChannel 3 (throttle)Rate axis โ€” holding up/down ramps the value; centered holds it.
Triggersโ€”Read but unmapped by default.
Expo & deadzone High expo softens movement near center for fine control while keeping full authority at the extremes. The deadzone ignores tiny stick noise around center so the aircraft doesn't drift.

Buttons

Buttons trigger named functions. Several are flight-mode shortcuts; others control the app.

ButtonFunctionEffect
Left X1mode_fbwaSwitch aircraft to FBWA.
Left X2mode_cruiseSwitch aircraft to CRUISE.
Left stick clickmode_autoSwitch aircraft to AUTO (fly the mission).
Right X1hud_toggleShow/hide the HUD.
Right X2toggle_rc_overrideEnable/disable stick control of the aircraft.
Right stick clickrecenter_camerasRecenter the camera surfaces in front of you.
Menutoggle_input_modeSwitch between Flight mode and Menu mode.

Menu mode and the right hand

When you press Menu to open the settings panel, the left controller is captured by the menu โ€” but the right hand keeps flying. The right stick still drives its RC channels so the aircraft never loses input while you adjust settings.

While in menu mode, the left-hand axes are held at safe values: direct axes return to neutral and the rate axis (throttle) freezes at its current value, resuming smoothly when you exit the menu.

Recentering

If the camera surfaces or HUD drift from where you want them (after moving, or if tracking shifts), press Right stick click to bring them back in front of your current view.
